RIP Arthur C. Clarke

The great sci-fi Arthur C. Clarke passed away today. What a truly sad month this has been for the Fantasy / Sci-fi community. I still remember fondly the first time I watched 2001: A Space Odyssey and when I later read Rendezvous with Rama, Rama II, and Rama Revealed. Never had I been so entranced into a work of science fiction. You will be missed, but now at least you will be free to travel amongst the stars you so eloquently wrote about in your novels.

RIP Gary Gygax

I am sad to report the passing of one of the greatest gamers to ever walk the face of the earth. Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons passed away today. The only comfort in his passing is knowing that his spirit will live on as long as there are people gathering at a table, breaking out their multi-sided dice, and taking a journey into the magical realms of some distant fantasy world. You will be missed Gary Gygax, and we will remember you always.

Lack of updates

Not much has happened this month so I haven’t had much to write about. I have also been busy teaching myself C# which is a rather fun language to learn and not to hard to pick up on once you get into it. Hopefully we will see some good updates coming our way next month. Maybe Bioware will finally reveal that new MMO they are working on or Aion will open up beta in the US… Who knows. Until then, have a day!

Network Solutions Domain Hijacking

So apparently Netsol has taken it upon themselves to register your domain name the instant you search for it using their domain search tool. If you dont complete your registration then you have to either wait 4 days for them to release it where another domain taster will come along and hold it for 4 days or you can pay them the outrageous price of $34.99 to buy the domain from them. How fucking shady can you be to steal domains like that. Now I know some registrars will do this on some domains, but not every domain and not the moment you search for it. Thats just wrong. If you have any domains with Network Solutions I would recommend transferring away from them and moving to someone more reliable. hopefully enough people file ICANN complaints to get them shut down or they get the shaft from a registered trademark holder who will obviously be very upset that they are registering trademarked domains. PHPBB Gold Released

Well after lots of testing and fixes, phpBB3 “Olympus” has been released. What a long way it has come since I first discovered phpbb 1.2 and setup a small forum. Many hacks, and mods later I still use it for some small projects and find it to be one of the most useful and enjoyable forums to mod and administrate. Enjoy!

Today we begin a new chapter in the history of phpBB. After five years, over 200,000 lines of new and altered code, and many a long night phpBB Group is very proud to announce the release of phpBB3 “Olympus”.

phpBB has changed considerably since work on its second major release began. People have come and gone but this day would not have been reached without the hard work and dedication of all our group members, past and present. The phpBB community, all of you, also deserve a large pat on the back for continuing to support this project. Whether it be through writing mods, creating new themes, spreading the word or simply using phpBB to build new communities, our thanks to you too.

So again we say with great pride and many thanks to all those who’ve helped us reach this point – enjoy phpBB3.

Fare Thee Well Robert Jordan

It is with great sadness that I have found out that one of the greatest fantasy writers of our times has passed on. Without a doubt, Robert Jordan was a master of fantasy literature. You could not even begin to discuss modern fantasy without his name or his work being brought up.� My condolences to his family and friends. I will miss you RJ and I thank you for all of the wonders the Wheel of Time series has brought to my imagination.

Temp Theme change

So I don tknow how long its been screwed up by my edited default theme was really screwy looking in IE. The header and footer were left aligned even though the coding said otherwise. Untill I can fix it I will just be using the old theme I had originally used for the site. Enjoy!

Sorry the site was down for the IE browsers out there. Was a slight error in the coding contained within the quoted text that I did not see before. It has been fixed and testing via a few different IE based browsers it appears to be fine. Sorry again.

Do to some wierd visual effects caused on publishing a recent post I am going to go ahead and do some modifications to the site so it doesnt happen anymore. Please be patient as the site may get some wierd glitches in it from time to time. Have a Day!
