MMORPG has written a great article debating contested and instanced raids. While the two editors gave several pros and cons for each, I always have and always will be for contested dungeons. It allows for more then just the top raiding guilds to get a chance to explore some of the high level dungeons and, if the game requires corpse recovery, there is that element of fear in a contested dungeon.
